An insider’s guide to the best wedding venues in Athens, Greece.
Needless to say, the beginning of this post is not on this page. If you happened upon my Journal just now, friends, then by all means come in, get comfy and… read The Most Perfect Venues To Say I Do In Athens Part #1 before you go further with this one. Or you may wish to read it right after, but anyway you choose let me just say that as an Athens wedding photographer there’s nothing I’d keep only to myself when it comes to venues. So go through this read and if there’s more you need tap the contact button and drop me a line! Now shall we?
KTIMA 48, ANAVYSSOS
Good to know: Overlooking the iconic Cape Sounion (the magical Temple of Poseidon is where designer Mary Katranzou held her epic ss2020 fashion show) this gorgeous Athens wedding venue is a palm-fringed Miami-beach meets Mediterranean pretty, modern den for lovers of poolside weddings!
Photography-wise it is a venue of comfort, because it will give you the opportunity to enjoy your portraits time and be right back at your reception pronto, whether it is held semi-indoors, or out on the manicured lawn by the pool. The nooks here are spectacular, from the Tiffany blue seating, to the poetic little chapel – perfect for any kind of ceremony- and the wild rockies underneath dangling above the waves. You’ll definitely want to have your portraits on the side lane among exotic flora and trees of the Riviera, and let the sundown melt behind your backs in perfectly peachy hues! I love it!
LAKE VOULIAGMENI ON ATHENS RIVIERA
The Myth: Legend has it it was water nymphs and fairies bathing in its waters and inhabiting its caves. In reality, ancient Athenians would swarm the sunken lake for ease and comfort under thick shade, which is something modern ones do as well, when an Athens Riviera wedding is not taking place in its stunning premises. And just because it is one of the most unexpected sights, after all, the sea is right across it, Lake Vouliagmeni is a venue for all kinds of I do’s, from Boho vows to super-elegant affairs and pre-wedding parties.
The scene is shady, and the crayola peach rock formations around it give images a soft color and tone especially a little before sundown. For magical portraits you can have a boat in the lake swathed in flowers and you two in the middle, while for the rest of your portrait photography as newlyweds Island Athens Riviera is super-close.
ISLAND ART & TASTE On THE MARGI HOTEL & THE MARGI FARM
The Hotel: If you’re a vintage Greek cinema buff, chances are you’ve caught a glimpse of the Margi Hotel’s 1960 terrace on several silver screen films. This magical venue on the Athenian Riviera has seen more than director’s lenses several celebrity visitations through the years. After a modern era renovation it also happens to be a super-popular wedding and event venue with 6+1 spaces to make your hearts flutter, whether you plan for an indoor, a private space, or an alfresco Athens Riviera wedding! My personal favorites for bridal portraits and the reception? The Malabar & its Pool for outdoor summer weddings, and the Margi Villa for preps and bridal portraits.
The Farm: You’ll think you’ve landed a Provencal cottage, especially on early summer when the lavenders around the Margi Farm are thick and plush! This venue is not right on the coast of Athens Riviera, but uphill. It’s perfect for long family dinner receptions of Italogrecian flair, as well as magical wedding fetes under the stars. The picture-perfect ivy-clad cottage will give you a beautiful backdrop for portraits, or your welcome refreshment stand, and the light for photography is simply divine!
